  Job Fail!

  1. phone rings and I am walking home... i pick up
  2. Phone lady: Hi, I'm @@@@ from @@@@ and I was wondering if you were still interested in the communications job you applied for?
  3. Me: yes, I am... Sorry, can you say where you are from again.
  4. PL: @@@@!
  5. Me: (is very confused, i don't remember applying to this company, nor do i remember hearing it before)
  6. PL: it is required with the Australian Federal Anti discriminartion (blah blah blah) that this job go to someone who is from an Aboriginal or Torres straight background. ARE YOU from an an Aboriginal or Torres straight background?
  7. Me: *sigh* no, thats not me.
  8. PL: oh... (sounds really defeated) ...err, do you wnat me to keep your resume on file?
  9. Me: yes please,
  10. PL: ah, okay... bye.
  11. Me: bye... ?
  12. I do understand the importance of this kind of perferential job placement, but le sigh, my whiteness and Eurpoean Anglo-ness works against me!

  612 ABC local's flood expereince.

  Brisbane Floods Day 1.

  So, I live in Brisbane, and most of the news outlets around the world are reporting that we are being flooded. which is true. Its easy to see hundreds of photos and videos on the internet of the flood waters rising. The fact is that the river levels are set to continue to rise over the next 48 hours and over 6000 homes in our states capital are likely to be compleately submerged. This is on top damage which has occoured in central and northern queensalnd in the past week.

  My home is fine, but many of my friends have been evacuated.

  From February to December 2010 I worked for The Wire on the Community Radio Networked. For those 11 months every Friday I produced 3-5 minute news and current affairs packages. I also Panelled the live show and have acted as the producer and announcer on occasion. The program is broadcast live to at least 25 stations, and used on more than 160 stations in total on the CRN and CARRMA networks across Australia.
